Transylvania University does not participate in the TRIO programs.

The policy is informal, but powerful. If you have financial need, Transylvania will try to help you out. This is true for incoming first-years, and for students who hit financial difficulties later in their academic career.


A brief description of the institution’s programs to equip the institution's faculty and staff to better serve students from low-income backgrounds:

There is a faculty emphasis on teaching to/about diversity in all its forms, including economic diversity. However, faculty and staff are aware of the extensive aid available for low-income students, and know to direct students struggling financially to the financial aid office

Our most recent graduating cohort had a Pell grant recipient 6-year graduation rate of 60%.

A brief description of the institution's scholarships for low-income students:

Transylvania has a large institutionally-funded, need-based grant program with a budget of over $1 million a year. Additionally, over 25% of the students receive a federal Pell grant, and over 60% of our students have financial need as measured by the FAFSA.

This recruiting year, we added a new scholarship to increase diversity, economic and ethnic, at our institution.

Transylvania has strategic partnerships with several community based organizations that work with low-income students. We will work to financially assist students who qualify for admission.

Transylvania has an open admissions policy that does not look at income of the family, otherwise known as a need blind admissions policy.

On average, 1/3rd of our incoming class tends to be first generation college students, which highly correlates to income.

Transylvania participates in all of the usual federal and state aid programs. In general, if a student has financial need, we try to meet it.
