Transylvania University affirms sustainability as a core value and integrates it into the
intellectual and social life of students, faculty, and staff by encouraging study, discussion, and participation in sustainable practices on campus and in the community.

The President’s Council on Sustainability serves as the driving force behind sustainability on Transylvania University’s campus, making recommendations to the President and ensuring that adopted recommendations are carried out successfully. So far, the Sustainability Council, with input from hundreds of people across campus, wrote a sustainability master plan that was adopted by the administration. There is a teams of council members responsible for each of the eight goals included in the plan. This year, the teams are on hold while the council focuses on writing the university's climate action plan. There is also a group that continues to focus on food issues.

The office functions as the hub of campus-related sustainability activities and initiatives. The office serves to engage students, faculty & staff in sustainability efforts through campaigns and programs, and spearheads administrative efforts on sustainability-related planning and policies. The sustainability office also serves as a sustainability liaison to the community, serving on various committees and supporting community efforts and events.
