Environmental Science and Studies Major: Students in the environmental science major will be prepared on how to become environmental problem-solvers in a world confronting climate change, population expansion and depletion of natural resources. The program prepares students to enter a range of environmental careers in which they will make a difference as scientists, policy makers, industry representatives and citizens. Climate, Weather and Society Minor: Students minoring in Climate, Weather & Society will be provided with an introduction to atmospheric principles and meteorological phenomena such as heat waves, drought, hurricanes and severe thunderstorms. The minor is suitable for students who wish to be informed about this field and who might pursue careers in environmental policy, emergency management, mass communication, government, and industry, or graduate work in environmental or physical geography.
Geography Minor: This minor integrates topics that will deepen and broaden your understanding of environmental, societal, and economic issues and how these disciplines work together to influence decisions that affect the environment and long-range planning.
Humans Rights and History Minor: The Human Rights & History minor will challenge students to think about issues historically, geographically and thematically. The minor will also investigate how human rights have been implemented, abused, and restricted.
This program has been designed to allow students to take courses across the disciplines (with an emphasis on history) by offering a framework for understanding the roots of human rights controversies, theoretical approaches to understanding them, and practical approaches to ameliorating their 21st century effects. Students are able to tailor their interests by taking courses on the environment, immigration and forced migration, race and society, gender, sexual violence, and LGBTQ+ issues.
Geography and Environmental Planning: This major integrates topics that will deepen and broaden your understanding of the interrelationships between environmental, social, and economic issues and how these disciplines work together to influence decisions that affect the environment and long-range planning. Students choosing to major in geography and environmental planning will be exposed to a wide range of courses in both human and physical geography. The broad education in geography prepares students for a variety of professions.
