A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:

Leadership and Communication: Serves as a member of the President's Council, collaboratively develops and implements TU's mission and vision related to diversity and equal opportunity, adds value by serving as an influential and strategic contributor to the university's operations, partcipates in senior leadership discussions regarding university policy and program initiatives; offers insight and advice to administrators as they work to engage faculty, staff and students in cultural transformation related to diversity, provides strategic leadershop for continuous advancement of TU's diversity cultural shift through partcipation and engagement of faculty, students and staff in TU's Reflective Process for Diversity and subsequent activities, brings leadership, vision, integrity, inclusiveness, energy, and a team-oriented philosophy to the overall diversity efforts at TU, provides visionary leadership to TU's Diversity Coordinating Council, Diversity Action Committee, Tu's Hate/Bias Response Team and Reflective Process Work Group. Partnerships: Collaborates with members of the TU's Black Faculty and Staff Association and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Committee and other constituency groups to develop a common vision for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, strengthens and further advances instituional partnerships with external community to promote diversity at TU, collaborates with Provost and Vice Presidents to increase diversity of workforce, collaborates with the USM Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity to review strategic action plans for the advance of diversity and recommends programs and policies to assist USM institutions to promote cultural competence and establish and maintain diverse and welcoming communities. Assesment and Evaluation: Leads initiatives across the campus community to support the devlopment, implementation and assesment of departmental, divisonal and institutional diversity goals. Resource Development: Consults with senior leadership team to ensure adequate resource allocation to support the achievement of institutional, divisional and departmental diversity goals, develops and oversees the budget of the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity, collaborates with Office of Development to prepare and present proposals for corporate and/or government sponsorship of institutional diversity initiatives. Compliance: Oversees affirmativeaction, EEO, Title 9 compliance including review of policies and practices, collaborates with HR, University Counsel and Office of the Attorney General to identify best practices and develop strategies to assure university compliance with federal and state law, oversees the process of investigating and resolving complains of discrimination and/or sexual harassment.
