A brief description of the policies and/or guidelines to improve outdoor air quality and minimize air pollutant emissions from mobile sources:
The Sustainability Office promotes sustainable transportation through our Simple Sustainability Tips on our website that encourage sustainable transportation methods including walking, wheeling, running, biking, taking the TTC or GO Transit and other tips such as: "Drive efficiently by accelerating smoothly and avoiding fast acceleration/braking which consumes most of your car’s energy. Also curb idling by turning off your engine after 10 seconds of stand-still.
As part of a green initiative with Grounds keeping, we have purchased battery operated grounds equipment to replace our gasoline operated equipment and will continue to explore alternate equipment in place of gasoline powered equipment.
The Campus Master Plan 2020 states that through the design of streets, pedestrian networks, cycling infrastructure and integration with transit, the future campus can continue to support and foster greater opportunities and enhanced experiences for more sustainable and accessible transportation modes. We are committed to making use of the following opportunities to make this possible:
Improving design for bike parking at multiple entrances across campus could promote sustainability and wellbeing through increased active travel.
Provide access to bike parking at grade, which could increase safety and overall use.
Whenever possible, additional bicycle parking could be provided in weather-protected areas.
Bicycle parking in leased spaces could be requested to support additional use.
We also collaborate with the Toronto Bike Share program, with 11 stations on campus and many more accessible nearby. Over 70% of our employees ride transit and almost 20% walk or bike to work. An even higher percentage of students commute via transit.
