A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
TRU Environment and sustainability has had numerous community sustainability partnerships since its creation. Dr. Tom Owen, Director, Environment and Sustainability is involved in the City of Kamloops long-term transportation advisory committee. He has also been served as a judge for the city’s high school environmental contest and the Chamber of Commerce’s Green Achievement Award. Further, he gave the keynote address at the Williams Lake Sustainable Development Conference and is a member of the Fraser Basin regional committee. Jim Gudjonson, Energy Manager serves on the City’s technical advisory committee for their Air Shed Management plan. The City of Kamloops in turn has a member on TRU’s Transportation Demand Management Study committee.
The nearby Guerin Creek was cleaned up in cooperation with Adventure Tourism and the Rotary Club as part of World Rivers Day. TRU Environment and Sustainability has sponsored conference speakers, and provided volunteers with BC Sustainable Energy Association conferences. Finally TRU Environment and Sustainability has just signed an MOU with Fortis and the City of Winnipeg to examine district heating in part of the City of Kamloops.
