2.1 Public sustainability commitment
Narrative detailing the institution’s guiding vision or goals for sustainability and the plan(s) in which they are published:
UNM 2040: Opportunity Defined is the University of New Mexico's multi-year strategic plan to build the future of UNM. This plan provides the campus with both a vision of its future twenty years from now, and a set of more immediate tasks designed to move the UNM campus community toward that vision. Of the five strategic goals outlined in the plan, Goal 4: Sustainability demonstrates the University's commitment to "Create long-term sustainability and ensure the necessary resources—human, financial, and physical—to achieve our aspirations while protecting the natural environment that supports all people of the state and the world." Objectives under this goal relate to reducing UNM's environmental impact to ensure that the University contributes to a sustainable world, and enhancing the vibrancy of the UNM campus community by improving wellness, including food, housing, and physical security, and activating UNM's physical and virtual spaces to support exciting and successful athletic and cultural events. Units across campus are actively working on tasks to achieve these strategic goals and objectives.
