8.1 Food recovery program

Does the institution donate surplus food to a food redistribution program on at least a monthly basis when its dining services are operational?:
Yes

Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the institution’s surplus food donation program:
The LoboEats app helps connect students, faculty, and staff on main campus to free, leftover food from campus events and students are notified in real time. After the concept won the UNM/CNM Mobile App contest in 2022, UNM Honors College, Information Technologies, and Institutional Support Services through UNM Food led the effort to create this app. This project bolsterers food security and improves environmental outcomes through reducing food waste. Students can open the app at any time to see if there happens to be food available nearby.

Campus food vendors also make donations to the Lobo Food Pantry, which provides free food to students. The program is sponsored by the Dean of Students and the Vice President of Student Affairs.
