6.1 Greenhouse gas emissions inventory and disclosure

Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions inventory

Performance year for scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions:
2024

Description of the methodology or calculator used to conduct the scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions inventory:

Lobo Energy Incorporated compiled data for historical and current emissions from Scopes 1 and 2. The inventory was conducted by using CarbonHub, a financial-grade carbon accounting software. CarbonHub was designed based on industry expertise and informed by the GHG Protocol and total tCO₂e for each emissions category was calculated using the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) values for Global Warming Potential. Specific emissions factors for the Scope 2 electric utility provider, PNM Resources, was input into the CarbonHub system.

If any scope 3 activities have been quantified, the following field is also required:

Description of the methodologies used to identify and account for the institution’s relevant scope 3 activities:

The Purchasing Department provides air travel dollars for the university each month charged via Purchasing Cards to Lobo Energy Incorporated (LEI). LEI then inputs these values into the CarbonHub software and air travel emissions are then calculated by using the emission source factor SCOPE 3-06. Business Travel, Air Transport (per USD / USEEIO Commodity Code 481000: EPA, $ (undefined).

Narrative outlining when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:

Fiscal Year 2006 (July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006) was chosen as the baseline year for the UNM GHG assessment. The Paris Agreement uses 2005 as the baseline year under which reductions should be made. In addition, New Mexico Executive Order 2019-003 "Executive Order on Addressing Climate Change and Energy Waste Prevention" states: "The State of New Mexico will support the 2015 Paris Agreement Goals by joining the U.S. Climate Alliance. New Mexico's objective is to achieve a statewide reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 45% by 2030 as compared to 2005 levels."

Baseline scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions:
