A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Wellness Ambassadors serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Life and other students on campus. Wellness Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting the mission of Student Life, which aims to promote wellness among Ohio State students and their communities. Wellness Ambassadors deliver educational presentations in a variety of settings and work together to plan, publicize, and implement events highlighting the 9 dimensions of wellness including: Emotional, Career, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, Physical, Financial, Creative, and Environmental.

One peer-to-peer outreach activity happens at the Student Wellness Center’s livewell hut where students are queried to sort different items into categories of: recyclable or not recyclable. Zero Waste Volunteer Program

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
In the past year, Ohio State began an aggressive campaign to reduce our front-of-house composting efforts throughout all dining locations across campus. Part of that initiative included recruiting student volunteers to serve as peer educators on what is compost, what is recycling and what is trash. The volunteers shared information in many ways—from conducting tabling, serving as “bin guards” to direct their peers at the point of disposing of trash, conducting programs for various student groups (including residential communities, student organizations, fraternities/sororities and so forth), etc. Students are incentivized to volunteer for hours by receiving prizes based on the number of hours they volunteer.

Zero Waste Games

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
Once per week, student life student staff conduct face-to-face tabling events at different residence halls throughout the campus, where we engage students using a “spin-the-wheel” game educating students on zero waste at Ohio State. A student spins a wheel, and when the wheel stops the student guesses if the item selected is either trash, compost or recycling. For participating, students are given small prizes like stickers or candy. In addition to tabling in our residence halls, we also do two large-scale tabling events/year at the Ohio Union, where we play a similar game but instead of a wheel, we use a “Plinko-Style” board At the Ohio Union events, we give away cookies and beverages (hot chocolate in the fall, lemonade in the spring) and larger promotional items (reusable straws, bamboo serving ware, etc). Finally, we also do a tabling event similar to our residence hall programs once/semester at our Recreation and Physical Activities Center. These events also provide us an opportunity to sign students up for our composting programs for both on- and off-campus students.
