The Knowledge Bank, The Ohio State University’s institutional repository, is a service of The Ohio State University Libraries. The mission of the Knowledge Bank is to collect, preserve and distribute digitally formatted intellectual output of Ohio State faculty, staff and students, that is currently or will be of research interest. Additionally, the Libraries Publishing Program works with faculty, students, and academic units at Ohio State to publish open access scholarly work in a variety of formats.

The institution's open access policy:

Ohio State does not have an institution-wide open access policy. University Libraries adopted an open access resolution that was adopted by vote and updated by vote on 3/15/12 and 12/8/22, respectively. This policy applied only to University Libraries faculty. Key text from the resolution is included below.

“Each University Libraries faculty member grants to The Ohio State University permission to make available their scholarly articles to the public and to exercise the copyright in those articles…The policy will apply to all scholarly articles authored or co-authored while the person is a member of the tenure-track faculty of University Libraries except for any articles completed before the adoption of this policy and any articles for which the faculty member entered into an incompatible licensing or assignment agreement before the adoption of this policy. Scholarly articles are typically presented in peer-reviewed scholarly journals and conference proceedings… To assist the university in distributing the articles, each University Libraries faculty member will provide an electronic copy of the final version of the manuscript upon acceptance for publication, at no charge, in an appropriate format (such as PDF). University Libraries may make the article available to the public in an Open Access repository. Each University Libraries faculty member is responsible for retaining the rights necessary for compliance with the policy or obtaining a waiver.”

A brief description of the open access APC fund:

There is no dedicated APC fund for campus. However, the Libraries/OhioLINK has negotiated several open access agreements with publishers, for the benefit of Ohio State University corresponding authors. These agreements cover APCs for eligible journals.


Does the institution provide open access journal hosting services through which peer-reviewed open access journals are hosted on local servers with dedicated staff who provide publishing support at no (or minimal) cost?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access journal hosting services:

Ohio State University Libraries does publish open access journals that are peer-reviewed. These journals are not currently hosted on local servers. However, the Libraries are in the process of transitioning the journals to an external host and there are multiple staff members that support these publishing efforts. These staff will continue to provide support to this effort after the journals are moved to an external host. The Libraries does not charge anyone for using its publishing services.
