A brief description of the postconsumer food waste composting program:
Ohio State has pulping systems in two of our major dining operations. Kennedy diners return waste to a designated area, which is then routed to our pulper. At the Ohio Union, our staff further separates the post-consumer trash, recyclable and compostable items. Composted material is diverted to an off-site anaerobic digestion system and converted into biogas used to produce energy.
