A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Olentangy River Restoration Project
In partnership with the Ohio EPA and the Columbus Department of Public Utilities, The Ohio
State University has initiated a project to remove the Fifth Avenue low-head dam and restore
the natural flow of the Olentangy River through the university area. This $6.9 million project,
which includes natural channel design techniques and native planting, will restore the shoreline
resulting in the return of a more natural habitat and ecosystem along the Olentangy between the
area north of the Ohio State campus and downtown Columbus.
