A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
Each year, the Newark Campus Offices of Student Life and Human Resources host a Cultural Diversity series for all college/campus personnel. Each year, a theme is identified and several different sessions are hosted throughout the academic year. Professional Development Opportunities offered by the Newark campus office of human resources – Each year, the office of human resources coordinates professional development workshops for the campus. Several of the activities center on cultural competence and trainings. Activities have included topics focuses on women, multiple generations, sexual harassment, diversity, etc. Staff Development Activities – The campus’s/college’s Staff Development Committee coordinates development activities for faculty and staff. Topics have included diversity programs and book readings related to cultural diversity.

The Ohio State University offers culture retreats across the institution mostly to intact teams some at the introductory level and others more targeted. The Ohio State University Office of Human Resources, Office of Academic Affairs, has reassessed our needs in this area and are expanding our engagement and outreach to include new employee orientation, health and wellness, employee benefits and leadership training and coaching to name a few.
