A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :
Faculty search committees at Mansfield Campus are instructed to post their vacancy notices in at least four print and/or electronic venues which will be seen by larger numbers of minority scholars. The associate dean discusses this with individual search chairs separately, furnishing examples (e.g., Women in Higher Education; Diverse: Black Issues in Education; IM Diversity website).. Search committees also consult Columbus department chairs for information on discipline-specific job-posting sites which will be visible to minority scholars. Mansfield’s HR officer then studies the lists of venues, making recommendations if needed, and eventually authorizing them. The Ohio State University provides the following support for its regional campuses. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Bell National Resource Center, established the Doctoral Bells Fellows program in 2009 for graduate students who were interested in the work of the Center and are interested in academic careers as professors or postdoctoral researchers. This program is designated for Ohio State doctoral students who show much promise of becoming productive scholars on topics related to African American males. More specifically, it includes ongoing professional development and mentorship that will prepare students for the academic rigors of the academy. Individuals selected for the program contribute to current and new research initiatives and writing projects designed by the Bell Resource Center.
