A brief description of the institution's stormwater management initiatives:
The entire Campus storm water management concept is developed around natural environmental attenuation. Large hard surface sheet runoff is directed to grass areas, then to vegetative swales and ultimately to wooded-streams. Buried storm water piping is limited to areas where it is necessary to pass water under a roadway or sidewalk. When necessary, point source storm water delivery is provided directly to an existing swale/stream. Since the 2007; 95% of annual landscape beds have be reverted to natural perennial beds or lawn, ½ of manicured lawn areas reverted to fields & woodlands and use of all lawn chemicals ceased.

Water quality is continuous tracked through the regulatory process and by faculty and under-graduate research. All campus planning and projects are reviewed consistent the Mansfield Campus storm water management philosophy and Campus Framework (Master) Plan . Construction contracts are written and project execution is conducted, inspected and enforced for compliance with State of Ohio and local Storm Water management regulations. The bulk of the campus 640 acres continuous to be protected and managed as undeveloped woodlands.
