1st Campaign
NYC Mayor's Office of Sustainability's Zero Waste Challenge
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
The New School started the Zero Waste Challenge with a baseline diversion rate of 17.8% by weight, and set a goal to reach 50% diversion over a three month period. Students were informed through the Tishman Center blog and newsletter, as well as by an announcement on their my.newschool online account page. Signs were hung in both campus cafes to show progress over the twelve weeks. In particular, students were encouraged to compost all food waste and compostable to-go containers.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
Participation in the Zero Waste Challenge contributed to a 25% increase in composting on campus for the year.
