A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
A waste characterization study was conducted in December 2010. From these results, a draft Waste Management Plan was developed. Recent efforts to reduce waste include new classroom recycling signs and bins, battery recycling collection tubes throughout campus, compost collection in all food service locations, electronic waste collection events, and the banning of plastic water bottle sales. Outreach activities to support these efforts have included a Bring Your Own Mug campaign, trainings for Facilities staff, and free reusable water bottle giveaways. Additionally, the Parsons Green Supply Center makes discarded art and design materials available for reuse by The New School community.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
These totals reflect FY10. The Office for Sustainability is currently calculating the diversion rate for FY11.
