Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
PAINLESS - energy-autonomous portable network nodes

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

ACG has rub an EU research project (called PAINLESS) related to energy neutrality in the area of wireless networks. The project website can be found below:

https://painless-itn.com/

The goal was to study energy-autonomous portable network nodes that could be mounted, e.g., on UAVs or robots, providing wireless service to places where the fixed infrastructure may not be available or sufficient (such as e.g. in remote areas, during special events, or emergency situations).

The project was funded by the Marie-Curie program, whose goal is to train young researchers in emerging, inter-disciplinary scientific fields.

Through our participation, we trained 2 PhD students (Nithin Babu,
who got his PhD last September - see https://www.acg.edu/news-events/news/phd-journey-marie-curie-fellow-at-acg/ ) and Muhammad Harron Tariq who is expected to graduate within the year.

As part of our work, we also demonstrated a UAV-mounted flying WiFi router,
which we demonstrated in a workshop we hosted (with help from your team!)
last May on campus:

So this project helped us develop technologies for energy-efficient wireless networking and train a young generation of researchers (15 in total) in energy-related technologies and research.
