ACG Sustainability Leaders
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
The ACG Sustainability Leaders (SLs) group is a team of student volunteers who participate in diverse activities and events aimed at motivating, inspiring and raising awareness towards a culture of Sustainability both on and off the ACG campus. The mission of the SLs is to raise awareness and engagement of ACG students with sustainability best practices and empower them to become knowledgeable, sensitized and responsible citizens of the world.
SLs participate in activities, such as the ACG Community Service Days, awareness raising campaigns (e.g. #ACGgoesplasticfree and Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!), reforestation of Mount Hymettus, the ACG Farmers' Market, etc.
No prior knowledge or skills on sustainability are required as the SLs go through a training process upon their selection. Part-time or full-time students from all majors are welcome to apply. The organization does not discriminate against any student, faculty, or staff based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, handicap, sexual orientation, or other.
SLs are trained by the ACG Sustainability Manager and, on an ad-hoc basis, faculty members from sustainability-related disciplines on basic sustainability knowledge, how to organize sustainability-related events and campaigns (preparation, logistics, promotion), on communication skills when interacting with other members of the community and/or engaging with ACG guests, on monitoring the recycling bins, and administering the CES Herbs Garden (from planting, to tending, to harvesting). All the above transferable skills are mainly used in peer-to-peer educational activities.
Applicants can demonstrate their interest by applying online at the Sustainability@ACG webpage. Recruitment is based on the application process. Following the application, the candidate is notified for an interview with the ACG Sustainability Manager.
