Sport Performance Center
The Sports Performance Center marks the most ambitious project to date of The Campaign for Fearless Champions, which has already funded 22 of 25 facilities projects, surpassed its goal of raising $10 million in student-athlete scholarship endowments and exceeded its goal of securing a $5 million endowment for the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy, a first-of-its-kind, leadership and career development program that prepares student-athletes for success after graduation.
Here are some items that are part of the sustainable solution for the SPC.
Site:
1. Used Existing Site; not a greenfield site
2. Previous Indoor building recycled (concrete and rebar)
3. Construction pollution prevention – storm sewers protected
4. Outdoor water use reduced; Indigenous / native plantings with reduced irrigation needs.
5. Bio-swale introduced with retention to reduce amount of water introduced into storm sewer
6. Bicycle parking
Building:
1. Air Rotation Unit – dramatic reduction in ductwork, hence a reduction in raw materials as well as a reduction in air handling units which would have had to pump air into the ductwork; energy reduction
2. LED Lighting w controls
3. Natural daylighting of over 100,000 sf of plan area with CPI product on North Façade
4. Light colored roof material to reduce heat absorption
5. Low omitting materials were used when possible
6. Heating and cooling design temperatures used so as to reduce energy use yet keep a comfortable environment for students, staff and spectators
7. Football playing surface is created from approximately 20,000 recycled tires.
