A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:

Bobcat Build was started as a way to say “Thank You” to the San Marcos community. It has now turned into a Texas State University tradition and serves as the largest service project on campus. It is also one of the largest, one-day community service projects in the state of Texas. The name itself symbolizes our goal of strengthening the bond between Texas State and the community of San Marcos. Every spring semester, students volunteer their time to complete various service projects throughout the community such as landscaping, painting, or clean-ups at residents’ homes, local schools, parks, churches, and neighborhoods.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (2nd partnership):

As the steward of Spring Lake, The Meadows Center is responsible for the management of this unique body of water and its natural and cultural resources. Given that this effort is crucial, our Diving Program depends on the help of its AquaCorps, a team of trained volunteer divers that realize the goals of conserving the springs for future generations. By successfully completing the Spring Lake Dive Authorization course, qualified Open Water SCUBA divers can become members of our AquaCorps and assist us in managing and monitoring the lake, while at the same time enjoying dives in crystal clear water with constant temperature in one of the best freshwater dive sites in the state.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (3rd partnership):

The Annual San Marcos River Clean Up is a litter pickup event aimed to help beautify the river, creeks, and river banks throughout San Marcos, Texas.
Every Spring on the first Saturday in March, folks from all over Texas participate in the world's longest river clean up. Help us pick up trash along the entire length of the San Marcos River (approximately 90 miles). This group will mainly focus on beautifying the upper San Marcos River and it's banks. If you have any questions about canoeing or cleaning the lower part of the river.
The Meadows Center’s Operation SCUBA initiative gives student veterans an opportunity to earn an open water dive certification and learn about education, team building, therapeutic resources, and environmental stewardship at Spring Lake. The course integrates scuba diving and mental wellness techniques as a way for veterans to bond with others, develop a sense of purpose, and most importantly, receive support from their peers.
