Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Texas A&M is firmly committed to promoting and fostering a culture of community service, so much so that one of its six core values is Selfless Service, and the university is proud of the significant contributions and impact its students make through service each year.

The data on student service hours supplied here comes from the 2017 Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey. The SERU survey is typically conducted every 2 years, and the SERU survey was administered in both 2019 and 2021. However, the data from the 2019 survey was deemed unreliable by Texas A&M’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Evaluation and was not released, while the 2021 survey did not include a question regarding the service engagement of the student population. As such, the data from the 2017 survey is the most recent reliable data available regarding the service engagement of the student body.

The data from the SERU is combined with reported service hours from several key leadership and service-related campus organizations to arrive at the total hours submitted. The score for this category likely does not accurately reflect the investment Texas A&M students make every year in community service because currently the campus does not have a tool or system to capture the total number of volunteers and the hours they dedicate to service.
