Yes

A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

Texas A&M issued a Request for Proposal for a Sustainability Master Plan (SMP) and marketing/branding plan. Once we contracted with HCK2, we assembled a team that represented staff in operational areas such as facilities, utilities, environmental health & safety, and engineering. We also involved faculty members from Architecture and Geosciences, as well us undergraduate and graduate students. As the consultants developed the “Sustainability 12” we asked staff with authority to make purchasing decisions in the respective area to review the suggested metrics and timelines. For instance, any metric related to greenhouse gases or utility consumption were reviewed and approved by the Associate Director of Utilities and Energy Management (UEM). Transportation and Dining metrics were approved by their respective leadership. Ultimately, the SMP was modeled with STARS in mind. When the draft plan was in its final stage, it was shared with the Office of the Provost.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The Sustainability Master Plan (SMP) addresses 12 strategic imperatives known as the Sustainability 12. They include:
1. Management of climate change
2. Purchasing of sustainable goods and services
3. optimization of energy use
4. Sustainable food and dining
5. Management of water resources
6. Waste management
7. Sustainable land use
8. Use of green building practices
9. Utilization of alternative transportation and fuels
10. Improving social and economic factors
11. Education and research
12. Management and funding support.

Each of the Sustainability 12 have detailed metrics and expected time goals established. For a complete list, please review the SMP at http://sustainability.tamu.edu/Data/Sites/1/downloads/masterplandocument.pdf

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

Action plans for each objective and target are included in the Sustainability Master Plan (SMP) and include a target date for completion and an associated metric. By addressing the twelve components detailed in the SMP, sustainability metrics will be tracked and progress on achieving the objectives and targets, reported. The Plan provides a roadmap by which to achieve the sustainability goals and enhanced long‐term social, environmental and financial stewardship identified and committed to by Texas A&M University.
