Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
The Tennessee Tech Food Pantry is located in our campus apartment complexes, Tech Village. The Tennessee Tech Food Pantry was established as a resource for Tennessee Tech University students and employees in November 2012. Since then, it has served over 1,000 members of our campus community. The campus food pantry serves all Tennessee Tech students and employees, including those working through third party entities. At this time we do not serve anyone outside of our campus community.
We also have a student free-store called Wings Up-Cycled. It works like a thrift store, except everything is free. We accept donations of clothing, shoes, and miscellaneous home supplies. We want this store to be an accessible resource for students who may need some more clothes or who just want to mix up their wardrobe, but do not have the finances to do so. We hope that Wings Up-Cycled can help promote second-hand shopping rather than the alternative of buying from and supporting other unethical textile industries
Summer 2021: Butterfly Blessing Box added outside Food Pantry. The mission of Butterfly Blessings is “take what you need, leave what you can, pay it forward.”
