The primary purpose of the committee is to approve expenditures of the Sustainable Campus Fee to create a more environmentally friendly campus that strives to be carbon-neutral, in accordance with TBR and TTU guidelines, policies and procedures. The committee may also advise the University Administration on sustainability policy, educate the community on its sustainability initiatives, or otherwise provide mentoring and support for a sustainable campus.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
In addition to the main Sustainable Campus Committee, there is a sub-committee that specifically coordinates with the campus community. This group works with other organizations on campus that could partner on events or might be interested in bringing in various proposals to further the sustainability initiatives on campus. They inform these groups of the open meetings, and keep note of students who might be interested in being a part of the committee when positions open up. This group is also responsible for working with Residential Life and maintaining a partnership with them.
Other coordination includes: Student-led "Think Tanks" (Brainstorming Workshops) 1-2 per semester; personal contact with Deans, Department Chairs, Club and Group leaders.
