APC fund

Does the institution provide an open access article processing charge (APC) fund for employees?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access APC fund:
The Open Access Publishing Fund supports Temple researchers who would like to publish in an open access journal but do not have the funds to cover the article processing charge (APC).

The Libraries’ goal in starting the Open Access Publishing Fund is to promote new forms of scholarly communication. There are a number of high-quality open access publishers whose business model depends on the fees they collect from authors. Authors are increasingly interested in making their work available open access, as it helps them reach new and wider audiences. However, the costs involved can be a deterrent. We hope this Fund will help remove this financial barrier, encouraging authors to experiment with new and innovative publishing models.

The Open Access Publishing Fund is open to all current Temple faculty, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and graduate students. Additional eligibility criteria can be found here.

The Fund covers up to 50% of current Temple faculty, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and graduate students' portion of the APC, for a total of no more than $3,000. For example, if the APC is $2,000 and there are four authors, two of whom are from Temple, the authors can apply for $500 from the fund ($250 each).

Open access journal hosting

Does the institution provide open access journal hosting services through which peer-reviewed open access journals are hosted on local servers with dedicated staff who provide publishing support at no (or minimal) cost?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access journal hosting services:
Temple University Libraries partners with faculty, students, and the Temple community to publish scholarly, peer-reviewed open access journals at no cost. The Libraries use Open Journal Systems (OJS) for the management of the journals. OJS was created by the Public Knowledge Project. Each journal is assigned an ISSN and assigned article-level DOIs. Visit https://tuljournals.temple.edu/ to view the journals that are currently supported. More information can be found at https://library.temple.edu/services/journal-publishing
