11.1 Surplus and reuse programs

Each year since 2023, there's a nationwide event called "ReciclaTEC", in this event all of the campuses participate to retrieve recyclable materials from students, staff and it's also open to the community, depend on the campus it could last one full day to a week, collecting valuable waste materials to send them to a reuse o recyclable program. Also, most of the campus are up to date on the waste management regulations from each state of the country, all of them has a "Residuos de manejo especial" permit that has to be updated each year, that license is part of the integrated waste management program and help the campuses divert part or all of the recyclable materials, from the landfill.
Also there's the "Adiós plásticos de un solo uso program", also a nationwide program that enhances our community to STOP using single use plastics, and promote the recycling of the plastic that is still being used. Furthermore, there's the sustainable events guide for students, staff and providers, that explains what you should do before, during and after an event regarding a sustainability, but specifically there's a part of the guide that explains waste management to reinforce the idea of correct separation for a later diversion from the landfill.

11.2 Single-use disposable plastics program

As a part of the "Adiós plásticos de un solo uso" program, part of the goal were to work within our providers to find alternatives to the single use disposable plastics, that are used in our cafeterias or dining areas, so, in 2023, we, along with our law department, created a "sustainability clause" that is now part of the new contracts with catering services, new food providers, etc. in which it mandates that we no longer accept "biodegradable plastics", and only accept compostable articles for those food and dining services.
This is a work in progress since there were a lot of existent providers with existent and non negotiable contracts, but it's a path we are already stablishing and following.

11.4 Hazardous waste management and disclosure

Tec de Monterrey's Campuses nationwide complies with the Federal Waste Managment Law, (FWML) that covers the exact procedures and guideliness to temporally storage, transport and dispose hazardous waste.
In compliance with the Federal Waste Managment Law, all of our Campuses have a temporal storage area confined for Hazardous Waste. Following the criteria and requirements of the FWML the storage areas contains all the safety measures to prevent any possible incident, such as laboratory safety showers and eye washes, fire extinguishers, proper ventilation, non-flamable construction materials and safety signs and labels per type of waste. All Campuse's collection suppliers for this type of waste must be registered in the public federation portal and have a waste transportarion permit.
