Strategy for the Integral Inclusion of Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Degree Plans Altough, Not an incentive perse, Ruta Azul is working on a strategy for the short and medium term, divided into two phases, for the integral inclusion of climate change and sustainable development. In phase one, we integrated climate change into 2019 degree plans, while phase two is a strategy for 2026 plans aimed at the holistic integration of ESD from the design stage, as described below:

Phase 1: In conjunction with the National Schools, we began implementing phase 1 to ensure that all undergraduate degree plans have at least one required unit of study that relates the discipline to climate change. By August 2023, all 2019 degree plans will have at least one required undergraduate course related to climate change. Within phase 1, we have also worked on designing and implementing pilot training courses and including climate change and sustainable development in the undergraduate curriculum. In the second year of this phase, the pilot programs have been consolidated to become permanent activities.

An example is Tec Week with Human Significance: Climate Emergency and Sustainability Culture, designed in 2021 in collaboration with the School of Humanities and Education and the Director of Social Impact. A total of 4,746 students have taken this unit of study and have worked with a Training Partner to propose sustainability projects on their campus.

Phase 2: The strategy consists of including ESD in the new degree plans by updating the curriculum design, ensuring that sustainable development is addressed in systemic, integrated form into design guidelines for courses. Phase 2 includes the integration of sustainability into transversal competencies for 2026 degree plans. The purpose is to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes necessary for leadership in sustainable development among students in all undergraduate majors

In the Education Area of Tecnológico de Monterrey's 2025 Sustainability and Climate Change Plan, the main goal is to train leaders committed to forging a sustainable future. This Education Area designed the course “Educate to confront climate change”. This resource is part of the Continuing Education Courses in the Disciplines (Cursos de Actualización en las Disciplinas (CADI) in Spanish) which were designed to contribute to the updating knowledge of teachers in different professional specialization areas.
The main objective of the course focused on climate change is to provide the concepts, methodologies, pedagogies, and tools necessary to integrate climate change and sustainable development transversally into teaching practices and training units. The course is offered in February and August since the year 2022 and has impacted 176 teachers from the institution.

Update: All activities, resources, training courses, materials included in the continuining education programs in CADi have no cost for all our faculty members.
