NECEC leads the just, equitable and rapid transition to a clean energy future and a diverse climate economy. NECEC is the only organization in the Northeast that covers all of the clean energy market segments, representing the business perspectives of investors and clean energy companies across every stage of development. NECEC members span the broad spectrum of the clean energy industry, including clean transportation, energy efficiency, wind, solar, energy storage, microgrids, fuel cells, clean buildings and advanced “smart” technologies.

Syracuse Center of Excellence (SyracuseCoE)


Overview: New York State’s Center of Excellence for Environmental and Energy Systems, led by Syracuse University, is a vital part of Central New York’s innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. SyracuseCoE serves as a hub for innovative research and product development focused on improving indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency in buildings, clean and renewable energy, and water resources.


Key Features:



  • Collaborative Environment: SyracuseCoE is one of 13 NYSTAR-funded Centers of Excellence. It strategically brings together industry partners, researchers, and students, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. This environment ultimately creates new businesses and jobs, strengthening both regional and state economies.

  • Support for Growth and Innovation: Since 2002, more than 200 firms and institutions have participated in SyracuseCoE collaborative projects, along with over 75 faculty members from Central New York. Through June 2019, these partnerships have led to the creation or retention of more than 1,500 jobs.

  • Achievements: Collaborating firms and institutions have reported 57 patents related to SyracuseCoE projects, leveraged $53,880,448 in research funding, made over $8.7 million in capital investments, and established 13 new start-up firms.


Purpose: To create jobs and wealth in New York State through collaborations in research, development, and education.


Mission: To create innovations in environmental and energy technologies that promote sustainable well-being in built and urban environments.


Vision: To earn international recognition for the development of knowledge and products in environmental and energy systems for built and urban environments.

The Syracuse University Environmental Finance Center (SU-EFC) is housed in the Center for Sustainable Community Solutions (CSCS). We build capacity for government officials, nonprofits, and private sectors to drive positive change in environmental infrastructure and quality of life.

Founded in 1993, the Syracuse University Environmental Finance Center (SU-EFC) facilitates the development of sustainable and resilient communities throughout US EPA Region 2 (New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and eight Native Nations) and nationally.

SU-EFC is housed at the Syracuse University Center for Sustainable Community Solutions (CSCS). Guided by a strong commitment to equity and environmental justice, we enhance the administrative and financial capacities of state and local government officials, nonprofit organizations, and private sectors to make positive changes in environmental infrastructure and quality of life.
