A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
Food scraps program was instituted for the student residence living in apartment style housing, all food scraps were picked up and diverted to be composted.
Syracuse University has become the 70th educational institution in the nation to be certified as an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program, designed to organize the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of pollinators. Syracuse University joins more than 150 other cities and campuses across the country united in improving their landscapes for pollinators.
A vegetable garden was built and overseen through a collaboration between Office of Engagement Programs, Energy Systems and Sustainability Management, the Food Studies Program in Falk College and Physical Plant. The garden is helping to address the issue of food insecurity among students as all produce is given away in the two food pantry's on campus.
Syracuse University placed first among participating Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) institutions and—for the third straight year—first in New York state in the Total Recycling category of the 2019 RecyleMania competition. The University also came in second among ACC institutions and third among the 15 participating New York colleges and universities in the competition’s Diversion category, as well as first in the ACC and fourth among 18 New York colleges and universities in the Per Capita Classic category.
Syracuse University Sustainability Management is encouraging students, faculty, staff, and their friends and family to participate in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 30, at 8:30 p.m. Millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to show their steadfast commitment to protecting nature.

The the Sustainability Coordinator, key facilitator and organizational strategist to lead Syracuse University’s efforts to achieve its vision of instilling a culture of sustainability on campus. They are responsible for The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, the University’s sustainability metrics system, the Climate Action Plan development of consistent plans to reach long- and short-range programs, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory, and provides leadership and coordination to the many distinct sustainability efforts on campus. They work with faculty to support the development of academic components to enhance the sustainability curriculum in our schools and colleges, including the development of research partnerships and internships for sustainability development.
