Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Pete's Giving Garden
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
During the fall of 2019 Pete's Giving Garden, vegetable garden, was installed on Syracuse University Campus. This garden was designed to ensure fresh herbs and produce would be available and harvested for the two food pantries on campus.
In addition to the two main garden beds the garden was completed with inclusivity in mind. The garden has ADA beds, ADA walkway, and ADA garden gate to ensure that all students can patriciate in helping and or volunteering in the garden.
The garden is also used for staff development with departments and colleges offering to help maintain, harvest, and plant in the garden.
Twice a semester a sustainable virtual cooking class is held to educate the campus community on how to eat more sustainable using the vegetables grown in Pete's Giving Garden and items procured from the food pantries.
