The Syracuse University Libraries seeks to support Open Access by assisting faculty, students and staff understand the processes and benefits of how their scholarly work can be published and made freely available to all those who need them. It also instructs on how materials can be created and integrated into curricula through the Open Publishing services.

A policy was drafted by the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Open Access and was endorsed by the Senate and has moved on to the Provost’s office for further action. The policy is not in effect yet.

APC fund

Does the institution provide an open access article processing charge (APC) fund for employees?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access APC fund:
Via departments they have paid APC fees on behalf of their authors, and some are covered by grants. SU libraries have a few agreements in place with certain publishers to allow SU authors a discount on APCs & recently SU Libraries signed a “Read & Publish” agreement with the American Chemical Society, and we have similar agreements in the works with other publishers.

The Syracuse University Libraries seeks to support Open Access by assisting faculty, students and staff understand the processes and benefits of how their scholarly work can be published and made freely available to all those who need them. It also instructs on how materials can be created and integrated into curricula through the Open Publishing services.

Since its launch in 2010, SURFACE has grown to include thousands of items ranging from scholarly articles, books, journals, dissertations and theses, conference proceedings, videos, and more. It serves to represent the strength and diversity of work being done by members of the Syracuse University community and to share that work with communities all over the world.
