Syracuse University has been an active member of the Workers’ Rights Consortium since 2000 . The office of Trademark Licensing and Syracuse University have worked closely with United Students against Sweatshops and the Students Coalition of Organized Labor on the Syracuse campus and nationally. Syracuse University was one of the original supporters of the Designated Supplier Program. Students from USAS and SCOOL have been asked to participate in the University’s Trademark Licensing Advisory Board. Syracuse University has taken an active position with licensees such as Nike, New Era (visiting their facilities), and Russell Athletic (inviting, Russell, Workers from the Honduras, the FLA and the WRC to speak on campus). The University also supported the Bangladesh Accord and required all licensees producing University goods in Bangladesh to participate in the Accord.
Syracuse University has been an active member of the FLA since 2000 and our tenure included being a representative on the University Advisory Committee. I was also a member of the Licensee Categorization Review Committee of the FLA.
Both memberships with the WRC AND FLA are renewed.
