Numbers are derived from multiple sources. The number of students participating in community service is based on the 2022 Senior Exit Survey in which 45% of respondents said they participated in volunteer activity or a Service Learning course during their time at Swarthmore. Data on hours volunteered is a conservative estimate based on the Lang Center Annual Report from 2021-22 from Lang Center for Civic and Social Engagement. Here, a more comprehensive tracking regime was introduced in 2018-2019 so the increase from the 2020 response to the 2023 response should not necessarily be read as "growth" in engagement.
Information gathered primarily from Jennifer Magee (jmagee1@swarthmore.edu) for the Lang Center.
