A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
Globalization, Environment & Society: Study Abroad in South Africa takes place at the University of Cape Town, a world-class institution where science and social science faculties, along with professors from consortium colleges, provide a curriculum thatfacilitates the challenge of living and studying in a foreign country, and also meets the high academic standards of our schools. The program is housed in the Department of
Environmental and Geographical Science (EGS) at the University of Cape Town (UCT), which has an internationally respected student-faculty team with strong areas of interest in climate change, Global Information Systems, urban and agricultural development, and conservation of landscapes. Cape Town itself is a breathtakingly beautiful city nestled against Table Mountain at the southwestern tip of Africa. (2) Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic: Spring Semester. Environmental Studies and Sustainability based in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Courses of study may include Sustainable Agriculture, Ecological Economics, and Environmental Sociology. Internships with NGO Environmental Organizations: Hnuti Duha (Friends of the Earth) and Veronica Sustainability Center. The Centre Veronica Hostetin offers a number of model projects of sustainable development. Credits can count towards the minor in Environmental Studies and majors in some departments.Krakow University of Technology, Krakow, Poland: Spring Semester. Engineering and Science for Sustainability, based in Environmental Engineering Institute. Courses of study may include Ecological Engineering, Sustainable Development, Pollution Measurement Laboratory, Water Supply Engineering. Internships with sustainable businesses and government agencies.
