The college uses plows, shoveling, sodium chloride, calcium chloride, and sand to manage snow and ice. It has proposed the use of a new (seaweed based?) ice melt substance around the Wister Center but not yet implemented it. The investment in calcium chloride ice melt, and its use when conditions make it equally as effective as sodium chloride, is based on its lower impact on our plants, paving and the environment.
