Our trash is co-mingled with that of other clients of our hauler before they are weighed. We have no idea how many tons are disposed of as trash.
Recycling - All metals, most building materials and electronics are recycled through local haulers. Spent lamps and ballasts are as well.
Composting - All yard waste and much of the vegetable waste (plus compostable paper goods from the food service operations) are composted on site and used for mulch.
Trash to Treasure - A student run operation that gleans the dorms at the end of the spring semester and organizes a sale of the clothing, furniture, books and other stuff of student life that is left behind. Not only does the sale keep useful items from going out as garbage, it garners a substantial profit which is donated to local charities.
