Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
No written policies, plans or guidelines, but green infrastructure and LID practices are used
A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
We use a rainwater collection system at the campus garden. Rainwater is collected off the roof of the Freshwater Research Institute and collected in a large cistern. This waster is then gravity fed down to the campus garden where it provides all the water needed for our 50 raised beds at the garden.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, we had a landscape architecture company come to campus to analyze a portion of our campus that has major complications caused by stormwater. They conducted focus groups, assessed the property, and proposed solutions to create rainwater collection gardens and other landscaping approaches to issues arising from intense rainfall. We are planning to implement their recommendations in the future.
