A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the committee(s), office(s), and/or officer(s) during the previous three years:

Some of the accomplishments achievements include adhering to the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment, agreeing to the energy policy act of the United States Department of Energy, and strictly following of the Diesel Emissions Reduction Program (DERA) of the Environmental Protection Agency. Some of these commitments have been followed through by implementing more energy efficient lighting systems in some buildings, using solar panels, constructing LEED certified buildings and using more fuel efficient vehicles.

Civic Engagement Committee
• Mission Statement: The Civic Engagement Committee strives to promote civility based initiatives on campus, such as blood drives, Food Day, 'Tis The Season fundraising initiatives and Recyclemania. The committee collaborates with departments across campus to ensure that students have the opportunity to give back to the campus, local and global communities. The committee raises awareness of sustainable practices and provides opportunities for students to get involved with fundraising events and blood drives.

University Environment Committee
• Mission Statement: This Committee shall examine all aspects of the university environment, including but not limited to conservation of natural areas, ecological preserves, and historic sites and artifacts; transportation; parking issues; infrastructure; facilities planning; human health issues; safety and security; energy efficiency; recycling; waste management; and general appearance of all university locations. It will consult with and advise the Vice President for Facilities and Services and the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Sustainability Task Force
• Mission Statement: The Task Force is a group faculty, staff, affiliates and students who meet throughout the academic year to discuss sustainability at Stony Brook University. The Task Force serves to unite the Universities sustainability initiatives, communicate best practices and allow for attendees to learn of University-wide initiatives.

The Stony Brook University Office of Sustainability works as a proponent for positive change by partnering with the university community to help develop a sustainable culture. The office serves as a resource for best practices of sustainable solutions that look to increase operating efficiently, promotes environmental awareness and conserves resources.

Greg Monaco: Maintains Stony Brook’s new Bike Share program, interacts with the student EcoLeader Program, works with student employees to design and produce the Sustainability Brook newsletter and applies for award applications that have earned honors for the Office of Sustainability.

Kupenda Palmer: Liaison to other departments on campus. Organizes events to spread sustainability outreach.
