The Office of Sustainability supports faculty research efforts, that address issues of sustainability where possible. For faculty, grants such as the NSF grant for Sustainable Research and the FAHSS grant for Geo-spatial Science Grant are available to support research and sustainability on campus. Also, faculty conducting sustainability research have access to University facilities and/or partnering with the Centers of Excellence, to advance sustainability in their work. Additionally, the Office of Sustainability encourages faculty research within the university's Chemistry Department, with an ongoing Chemistry Solvent Recycling Program. In this program, waste solvent generated by the laboratories of Stony Brook Chemistry professors are brought to locations on campus, to be processed through a recycler.
