Does the institution offer at least one immersive, sustainability-focused educational study program that is one week or more in length?:

A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

The Alliance for International Reforestation was founded at Stetson by Dr. Anne Hallum in 1993. Since then AIR has hosted 40 Stetson students in highland Guatemala for an average of 4 weeks each June (apart from the recent break due to COVID). The organization plans to resume sending student in the summer of 2024. Participating Stetson students travel free of charge through a grant. This NGO has planted over 7.6 million trees as of February, 2023. Five Stetson alumni of those internships now serve on AIR's Board of Directors and are closely involved with decision-making for AIR's expanding reforestation efforts.
Stetson University offers one formal, semester-long course for Environmental Science majors to pursue full-time internships.
2022 Rinker Global Scholars Program to Venice, Italy: Sustainability and climate change were major features of the course and study abroad component over spring break in 2022. The final project was a collaboratively written book which can be accessed electronically -- students all received hard copies, and there is a copy in the campus library.
Offered annually, The University Honors Program’s initial course is a First Year Seminar entitled “What Does It Mean To Live Sustainably." In this co-taught course, the concept of sustainability is investigated in depth from multiple disciplinary perspectives over an entire semester.
The Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience has partnered with Volusia County's Environmental Management Division in recent years to provide "Climate Smart Floridians" programs at the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center, which is a multi-week academy focused on topics of climate change: what it is, and what actions can be taken to address it.
