Sustainable Food Systems Information

We have two large bulletin boards in Dunbar Dining Hall that are devoted to sustainability information about our food. One bulletin board is devoted to talking about real food and our local farms and purveyors. The dining hall is also where the kitchen team tells the story of foods served and where it comes from and is home to a suggestion box for meal requests and compliments!

We have a Green Bike program with many bikes around campus to allow for any Sterling student to use for transportation, primarily inter-campus travel. In 2015, we already had 20 bikes and that has only increased. We have a few people dubbed ‘bike barons’ who fix the bikes when necessary and also offer maintenance on student and faculty bicycles as well.

Our Field Guide goes out to all admitted students, and talks them through living in community and on our campus. That includes green living information such as using clotheslines instead of dryers and that a bicycle is your best bet for getting around.
