The assessments were developed as a way to explore the concepts of sustainability, land use, and conservation within the immediate region. This would be the ground floor for students to consider these issues in larger communities or communities they would live in after graduation.

A brief description of how the assessment(s) were administered:
During "A Sense of Place," which is a requirement for graduation, students write an initial essay that discusses place (including ecology, community, and sustainability). To successfully pass the course, students must write a 4-5 page paper about the relationships between human communities and the ecosystems of the greater Craftsbury area. Students will be assessed as to how well they understand local ecosystems, sustainability practices, as well as the impacts of local businesses, farms, food systems, and communities.

All students must pass A Sense of Place as a requirement for graduation. The Bioregional Inquiry Project is referred to throughout the student's career and he or she continues further reflection of the sustainability literacy as the student studies other communities.

A Sense of Place is offered both Fall semester and Spring semester, so all students are able to complete the Bioregional Inquiry Project.
