According to SUNY Polytechnic's 2018 Framework for a Sustainable Future, the institution wants to maintain and expand the institutional leadership by fostering innovative, entrepreneurial economic development and educational opportunities within New York, the nation, and beyond and promote responsibility and commitment to public service. The institution also strides towards supporting research in all disciplines.

In addition, The SUNY Green Building Experiential Collaborative is supported by the Green Building LEED Certification by Student Experiential Learning, a SUNY Performance Improvement Fund Award. It integrates the curriculum with campus sustainable buildings, offering new classes that focus on clean energy workforce development through LEED Operations and Maintenance and Zero Carbon Certification project experience and training for industry credential exams.
