Student Sustainability Research Incentives
Yes
A brief description of the student research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) provides a
unique opportunity for qualified undergraduate students to conduct
research at either SUNY Poly’s Albany or Utica campus. Research
projects span the disciplines of chemistry, physics, mathematics,
biology, engineering, computer science and humanities. The program
lasts 10 weeks and students are paid a stipend of $4,720.
In 2018, SUNY Poly was recognized as a Tree Campus USA due to these efforts to quantify our campus carbon sink and protect it for future research and educational purposes. A student co-authored study on the forest carbon inventory was recently published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Sustainability Education (Vol. 24, December 2020).
