5 new sustainability internships were created and started in spring of 2024. 23 total students were hired for the following internship positions: campus composting, FreeStore (our on campus free thrift store), land stewardship, native plant garden, and zero waste.

Second Point of Distinction
Bio Blitz
A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
In Spring 2023, Purchase College conducted its first bioblitz. The goal of the bioblitz was to identify as many living species on our campus as possible in a 48 hour window and to create an inventory using a free app called iNaturalist. The bioblotz also helped to identify endangered and invasive species. 911 observations and 317 species were logged.

Third Point of Distinction
Creation of Sustainability Sub-Committees
A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
3 sub-committees of Purchase's longstanding Sustainability Advisory and Outreach Committee were created in Fall of 2023 to supplement committee work throughout the school year. The 3 sub-committees are transportation, land stewardship, and plastics.
