Diversity at Purchase College is actively creating, developing, and nurturing a community symbolized by equal access and respect for all individuals regardless of cultural similarities and differences. Students, faculty, staff, and guests, through the collection of characteristics, concepts, and values that they possess, will be able to communicate, interact, and learn in an inclusive environment that prepares its students to be positive contributors to an increasingly global society.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:

Monthly Celebrations and Awareness Programs occur on a regular monthly basis. Each month the staff is committed to celebrating and honoring the cultures and identities of our community. The programming tied to these months provide opportunities for students and staff to connect, learn and recognize the complexities of cultural identity and self exploration. Though events are hosted during their celebrated months, our programming and dialogue is not limited to those sole four weeks.

Cultural competence trainings and programs are tied to required Welcome Week/Orientation events as well as New Employee Orientation. Throughout the year, the Office of Diversity/Multicultural Center holds trainings via interactive workshops and programs.
