Purchase College offers a Coral Reef Biology and Ecology experiential educational opportunity to study the biology and ecology of the living reef and live organisms. This program focuses on Extensive field work, observations of living organisms, projects, lectures and labs. Topics include: coral reef biology and identification; field sampling; reef monitoring; threats to reefs and how they can be mitigated; reef inhabitants (invertebrates, fish, sea turtles, algae); dolphins and whales; mangroves and sea grasses; local culture, history, and environment; substance and process of science. As a SUNY college, Purchase students are able to join any abroad program from a different institution in the SUNY system. Many programs are available focusing on environmental science, social sciences and economics with aspects of sustainability.
