A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
- The Office of Sustainability created a "Laker Guide to Living Green" that is distributed to all first-year students as well as any first-year faculty. This guide includes sustainable practices already integrated within the campus culture, tips to help you practice sustainability within your office or dorm room, and a list of the local restaurants and shops in town.
- Incoming students are shown where our reusable bottle fill stations are located throughout campus and hear about sustainable features of our buildings on campus tours led by Admissions interns.
- During the summer, before the Fall & Spring semester SUNY Oswego hosts orientation tabling sessions for new students to meet campus departments. The Office of Sustainability regularly attends to meet new students and gauge their interest in sustainability and promote our initiatives.
- While new students first come to campus they learn about the sustainable transportation options on campus through BikeShare and BusShare; how to volunteer for lakeshore clean-ups and garden maintenance; and learn about our composting and waste stream reduction efforts.
